Moving Your Stores to Brikl: Keep Your Domain, Choose Your Address
Switching platforms shouldn't mean starting over with a new web address your clients don't recognize. On Brikl, the move is free, the domain you own can come with you, and every store gets the address that fits it.

When you move your stores to Brikl, you decide where each one lives. Brikl rebuilds your existing stores for free, and they go live once you approve them. For every store, you choose one of three addresses: a free Brikl subdomain, a domain you already own, or a new domain bought through Brikl, starting at $50. If you own your domain, point it at Brikl and the address your clients know stays the same. The one thing that changes is the link to individual pages and products, so plan a redirect for the old links that matter.
In short:
- Migration to Brikl is free. Your stores are rebuilt and go live once you approve them.
- Every store can be served three ways: a free Brikl subdomain, a domain you already own, or a domain bought through Brikl from $50.
- If you own your domain, it can come with you. Point it at Brikl with one DNS record.
- Each store gets its own address, and you can change it any time, so a store can start on a subdomain and move to a custom domain later.
- HTTPS is automatic on all three, with nothing to upload and nothing to renew.
- Links to individual pages and products change, so redirect the old links that matter.
Is moving platforms expensive?
No. On Brikl, migration is free, from any platform. Brikl rebuilds your existing stores, and you approve them before they go live.
You book a migration session with the Brikl team, and there is nothing to pay. The only thing we ask is that you cancel or reschedule through your confirmation link if you can't make it. The session is free, but the time isn't.
Migration is different from a new store build. If you want the Brikl team to build a brand-new store for you, there are two paid options:
| Service | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Migration | Free | Your existing stores rebuilt on Brikl, from any platform, live once you approve |
| Simple store build | $99 per store | Up to 20 items and 2 logos, products from the Brikl marketplace |
| Advanced store build | $199 flat | Many products and logos, brand standards, multi-store landing page, artwork specs, coupons or a custom URL |
Why is migration free when a new build isn't? Because switchers already have clients, catalogs and order volume. Rebuilding those stores is the fastest way to show what Brikl does for a business that's already running.
After the move, the platform itself stays simple on the Launch plan: 3.5% per transaction, with no setup fee and no monthly subscription. See the pricing page for the details.
Do my store URLs carry over?
Not exactly, and you should distrust any platform that claims otherwise. Migration rebuilds the store on a new address. But "the URL" is really two things, and they behave differently.
The domain is the part your customers remember: store.yourclient.com. The path is everything after it: /products/navy-hoodie or /collections/spring.
- If you own the domain, it doesn't belong to your old platform. You can point it at Brikl and connect it to the rebuilt store. Customers who type the address still land on the store.
- If your store lives on your old platform's subdomain (an address like yourstore.oldplatform.com), that address belongs to the old platform. It can't move. You'll choose a new address on Brikl.
- Paths change either way. Every platform structures its product and page URLs differently. A deep link to one product page on your old store won't match the same product on Brikl.
So the honest answer is this: your domain can come with you if you own it, but individual page links won't survive the move. If an old link matters (a link in an email signature, on a printed flyer or in a client's intranet), plan to update it or redirect it.
Three ways to serve your store on Brikl
Every Brikl store can be served on one of three kinds of address. You pick one per store, during the migration or at any time after. HTTPS is issued automatically for all three: there's no certificate to upload and nothing to renew.
| Brikl subdomain | A domain you already own | A domain bought through Brikl | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Free to connect (you keep paying your registrar) | From $50 |
| Setup | Instant | Add one CNAME record, then connect | Buy it in the panel; DNS is done for you |
| HTTPS | Automatic | Automatic once connected | Automatic |
| Who manages DNS | Brikl | You or your client, at your registrar | Brikl |
| Best for | New stores, pop-ups, prospects, testing | Established programs and clients with their own IT | Clients who want their own address but not a registrar |
Option 1: a free Brikl subdomain
Every store gets a free Brikl subdomain the moment it's created. It's instant, it costs nothing, and SSL is handled for you.
The subdomain follows the store's name, so if you rename the store, the address moves with it. That's convenient while a store is still taking shape, but it also means you should settle on a name before you share the link widely.
This is the right starting point for most stores: a prospect demo built with Turbo Store, a seasonal pop-up, a team store for one event, or a store you're still building. You can always move it to a custom domain later.
Option 2: a domain you already own
If you or your client already owns a domain, connect it to the store. This is the option that keeps a familiar address when you move from another platform.
It takes two steps:
- Point the domain at Brikl. At the registrar or DNS provider, add a CNAME record that points the address at Brikl. The store's Domain settings show the exact target to use.
- Connect it in Brikl. Paste the domain into the store's Domain settings. You can paste it however you like: an https:// prefix or a path is stripped for you.
Brikl checks the CNAME record at the moment you connect. If the domain isn't pointed yet, Brikl rejects it and shows you the exact record to add, so you find out right away instead of discovering a broken store a week later. Once it's connected, the certificate issues automatically.
A tip for client programs: use a subdomain of the client's website, such as store.yourclient.com or merch.yourclient.com. Their main website stays where it is, and their IT team only has to add one record.
Option 3: a new domain bought through Brikl
Some clients want their own address but have no registrar and no interest in managing DNS. For them, buy a new domain directly in the Brikl panel, starting at $50. Brikl handles the DNS and SSL for you, so the store is live on its own address without anyone touching a DNS record.
This works well for a school spirit store, a club, a fundraiser or a new brand that doesn't have a website yet. They get a real, memorable address, such as lionsspiritwear.com, and you don't become their IT department.
A few rules that apply to all three
- One domain per store, by default. A domain serves one store unless you ask otherwise. To run several stores under one domain, contact Brikl support.
- Archiving keeps the address. If you archive a store, the storefront goes down, but its address stays reserved. When you bring the store back, the same URL is there.
- Every store has its own address. Brikl includes unlimited stores, and each one has its own URL, catalog and branding. The URL is shown on every row of your store list, ready to open or copy.
HTTPS, SSL and Cloudflare protection on every store
Whichever address you choose, every Brikl store is served over HTTPS and protected at the network edge by Cloudflare. You don't have to set up, buy or renew anything.
What HTTPS and SSL mean for your store
HTTPS is the secure version of the web address: the padlock in the browser bar. It encrypts everything between the shopper's browser and the store, so login details, addresses and order information can't be read or changed in transit. The SSL certificate (technically a TLS certificate) is what proves the store is who it says it is and makes that encryption possible.
It matters for three reasons:
- Trust at checkout. Browsers warn shoppers with "Not secure" on pages without HTTPS. Nobody wants to enter their address next to that warning.
- Search visibility. Google treats HTTPS as a ranking signal, so a secure store is easier to find.
- Client requirements. Many corporate IT and procurement teams require HTTPS on any site that carries their brand.
How Brikl handles certificates
On many platforms, a custom domain means buying a certificate, uploading it and remembering to renew it before it expires. On Brikl, certificates are issued automatically for all three address options:
- Brikl subdomain: HTTPS works from the moment the store exists.
- A domain you already own: the certificate issues automatically as soon as the domain is connected. The store's Domain settings show its SSL status.
- A domain bought through Brikl: DNS and SSL are both handled for you.
Certificates renew automatically too, so a store never goes down because a certificate expired. Connections use TLS 1.2 or later.
Cloudflare protection at the edge
Brikl stores sit behind Cloudflare's network, which adds a layer of protection in front of every storefront:
- DDoS mitigation. Floods of fake traffic are absorbed at the edge, before they reach the store, so a store stays online during an attack.
- Web application firewall. Common attacks, such as attempts to inject malicious code, are filtered out before they reach the platform.
- Bot protection. Automated bots that scrape products or abuse checkout are identified and blocked, while real shoppers get through.
This protection applies to every store, on every address option, at no extra cost. It's especially useful for stores with traffic spikes, such as a limited drop, a fundraiser deadline or a team store that opens to a whole school at once.
The rest of the security picture
HTTPS and Cloudflare protect the storefront. Behind it, Brikl holds a SOC 2 Type II attestation, renewed every year after an independent audit. Payment card data is handled by Stripe and is never stored on Brikl's servers. See the Brikl security page for the details.
Why three options give you all the flexibility you need
A distributor doesn't run one store. You run a store for every client, team, event and location, and each one has different needs. Three options mean you never have to force every store into the same setup.
Here is how that plays out across a typical book of business:
| Situation | Best option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You build a store for a prospect before the first meeting | Brikl subdomain | Free and instant, so it costs nothing if the deal doesn't close |
| A seasonal pop-up or a one-off event store | Brikl subdomain | No domain to buy for a store that runs a few weeks |
| You're moving an established company store from another platform | A domain you already own | The client's familiar address stays the same |
| A corporate client whose IT team controls DNS | A domain you already own | IT adds one CNAME record; nothing else on their website changes |
| A school, club or nonprofit with no website | A domain bought through Brikl | A real address from $50, with no registrar and no DNS to manage |
| A new brand or campaign that needs its own name | A domain bought through Brikl | Memorable address, live without technical setup |
The options also work over time. A typical store starts on a free subdomain while you build it and show it to the client. When the program is real and the client wants to promote it, you move it to their own domain or buy one for them. The store, catalog and orders stay exactly where they are; only the address changes.
That's the point of having all three: you choose the address that fits the store today, and you're never locked into that choice.
How does a migration work, step by step?
A migration is a guided session with the Brikl team, followed by your review. Nothing goes live until you approve it.
- Book a free migration session. Use the store build booking page and choose migration. There's no payment step.
- Have your files ready. Bring your logos as PNG, EPS or DST files at 300 dpi with a transparent background, and a store banner at 1308 × 279 px (SVG, JPG, GIF or PNG).
- Rebuild the stores together. The Brikl team recreates your catalogs, products, pricing, logos and artwork on Brikl.
- Choose an address for each store. Pick a free Brikl subdomain, connect a domain you own, or buy a new one through Brikl. If you're connecting your own domain, add the CNAME record before the switch.
- Review and approve. Check each store on its new address. It goes live when you approve it.
- Switch your domain and redirect old links. Connect your domain to the new store, then set up redirects from old links that matter.
- Close the old store. Once orders are flowing on Brikl, cancel the old platform so you stop paying for it.
A tip on timing: if you're connecting a domain that currently points at your old store, the switch happens the moment you change the DNS record. Do it when you're ready for the new store to take over, ideally outside a busy ordering window.
Move your stores to Brikl for free
We rebuild your existing stores on Brikl at no charge, and you choose the address for each one: a free Brikl subdomain, your own domain, or a new domain from $50.
Frequently asked questions
Is migrating my stores to Brikl really free?
Yes. Brikl rebuilds your existing stores from any platform at no charge, and they go live once you approve them. Paid store builds ($99 simple, $199 advanced) are only for brand-new stores the Brikl team builds for you.
Will my store keep the same URL after I move to Brikl?
The domain can, if you own it: point it at Brikl with a CNAME record and connect it to the rebuilt store. Individual page and product URLs will change, and an address on your old platform's subdomain can't move. Plan redirects for old links that matter.
How much does a domain bought through Brikl cost?
Domains bought through Brikl start at $50. Brikl handles the DNS and SSL for you, so there's no registrar to manage.
Do I pay anything to use a Brikl subdomain or connect my own domain?
No. The Brikl subdomain is free, and connecting a domain you already own is free. You keep paying your registrar for a domain you own, as you do today.
Do I need to buy an SSL certificate?
No. HTTPS certificates are issued automatically for all three options. There's nothing to upload and nothing to renew.
What DNS record do I need to connect my own domain?
A CNAME record that points your domain at Brikl. The exact target is shown in the store's Domain settings. Brikl checks the record when you connect the domain, and if it isn't in place yet, Brikl shows you exactly what to add.
Can I use one domain for several stores?
Yes, you can. By default a domain serves one store, but if you want to run several stores under one domain, contact Brikl support and we'll set it up with you.
Can I change a store's address later?
Yes. You can move a store from a Brikl subdomain to a custom domain, or switch domains, at any time. Note that the Brikl subdomain follows the store's name, so renaming a store changes its subdomain too.
What happens to the address if I archive a store?
The storefront goes offline, but the address stays reserved. When you bring the store back, it returns on the same URL. Nothing is deleted.
