How compliance works on an on-demand network

Brikl is a technology platform, not a manufacturer. Products are produced on demand by vetted fulfillment partners using blank goods from established, brand-name manufacturers.

Under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and related rules, the manufacturer or importer of a product holds primary responsibility for safety testing and certification. For decorated apparel, that means the blank garment manufacturer holds the underlying test reports and certificates, and the decorator is responsible for the safety of the decoration itself — the inks and methods applied.

Brikl's role is to work only with partners who take product safety seriously, and to help distributors reach the documentation they need for a specific product or program — so that when an enterprise customer runs a product safety review, the answer for the supply side is clear.

Children's products (CPSIA)

The CPSIA applies to products designed or intended primarily for children 12 and under. Here is how children's items are handled across the network.

  • Children's items (12 and under) are identified within our fulfillment partners' catalogs.
  • Third-party testing is performed by CPSC-accepted laboratories and held by the blank manufacturer.
  • Children's Product Certificates (CPCs) are issued by the blank manufacturer; many of our fulfillment partners also keep them on file.
  • Products are tested against CPSC requirements, including total lead content and phthalate limits.

Tracking labels & traceability

CPSIA requires a permanent tracking label on children's products and their packaging. On an on-demand network, that label lives on the blank garment, and production history is retained by the partner who produced the order.

  • Children's blanks carry the manufacturer's permanent tracking label — manufacturer, batch or lot, and date and place of production — on the product and packaging.
  • Fulfillment partners retain per-order production history in their systems.
  • A label can be traced back to the production batch, period, and location.

Decoration-level tracking practices vary by partner; the CPSIA-required mark is the manufacturer's tracking label on the underlying garment.

Safe decoration methods

Where children's products are involved, the inks and methods used to decorate them are held to CPSC safety limits.

  • Decoration inks used on children's products meet CPSC safety limits for lead and phthalates.
  • Certified inks are used across the network — for example, OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT certified inks.
  • Ink and decoration compliance documentation is maintained by our decoration partners.

Requesting compliance documentation

Running a product safety review, or need certificates for a specific program? We handle documentation requests individually — sourcing the right reports from the producing fulfillment partner and, where needed, the blank manufacturer.

Because these reports come from our partners and the blank manufacturers rather than a self-serve library, we scope each request to a real, active program. To request documentation, you'll generally need:

  • An active Brikl account with a store that's live or ready to launch
  • An established business selling to your own customers
  • A specific list of the products — and decoration methods — in scope

With that in place, we'll coordinate with the relevant partner to obtain the applicable documentation, which may include:

  • Children's Product Certificates (CPCs)
  • Third-party test reports for specific items
  • Ink and decoration compliance documentation (DTG, DTF)

Product Safety FAQ

Do you identify which items are children's products (12 and under)?
Yes. Our fulfillment partners identify which catalog items are intended for children 12 and under, which is the group covered by the CPSIA. If you are building a program that includes children's products, we can confirm which items in scope are classified that way.
Can I get Children's Product Certificates (CPCs) and third-party test reports?
Yes, on request for active programs. Third-party test reports and Children's Product Certificates are issued by the blank manufacturers. Many of our fulfillment partners hold these on file for children's items and can share them, and in other cases they obtain them from the blank supplier on request. We scope requests to active Brikl accounts with a live or launch-ready store and a specific list of products in scope; tell us the items and we route the request to the producing partner.
